South Pembrokeshire Stroke Club
Meet on the third Thursday of each month at The Cricketers, Imble Lane, Pembroke Dock, for social activities and a cup of tea. To find out more contact the Stroke Helpline on 0845 3033 100.

Swansea Stroke Swimming Club
Meets to exercise every Thursday from 11:45am-12:45pm at the Ysgol Crug Glas Hydrotherapy Pool.
You do not have to be a swimmer as it's the exercise that is important to help damaged limbs and muscles. Please contact the Stroke Helpline on 0845 3033 100 to find out more about us.

Southend Stroke Club
The club meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 8-10pm in St Marys Church Hall, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS2 6NA
Members enjoy social activities such as quizzes, speakers and outings.

Saffron Walden and District Stroke Club
This supervised exercise group meet on alternate Wednesdays at Saffron Walden Commmunity Hospital from 1:30-4pm.

South West Herts Stroke Scheme
The group is also known as Croxley Green Stroke Club and meets every Wednesday from 9:45-11:30am at Croxley Baptist Church, Baldwins Lane, Croxley Green, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.

St Albans and Harpenden Stroke Club
The club meets every Tuesday from 10:30am-12:30pm at Christchurch Hall, High Oaks, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
This stroke club is for people who have communication needs following a stroke.

The Stroke Association Stowmarket Support Group
This group supports people who have communication needs following a stroke and meets each Thursday from 10am-12pm, during term time. The group meets at The Hillside Community Centre in Stowmarket.
Success After Stroke Club
The main meeting of the club is held on Tuesdays from 9:30am-12:30pm. It also meets at various times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All meetings are at The Stevenson Centre, Broom Street, Sudbury, Suffolk.

Sherwood Stroke Club
Meets every other Friday from 10:30am-2pm at The United Reform Church Hall, Edwards Lane, Sherwood, Nottingham.
Join us for social meetings, speakers, entertainers and outings. Refreshments are provided.

Spondon and District Stroke Club
Meets every other Thursday afternoon from 1:30-3:30pm at Spondon Village Hall.
Join our small friendly club for social meetings, outings, our Christmas party and visits to other stroke clubs.

Stroke Support Group (Nottingham)
Meets once a month on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm in Sherwood Hall, Nottingham City Hospital, Hucknall Road Nottingham.
Come and join us for a cup of tea and a chat, and to take part in a wide range of activities including trips out.

 

South Islington Stroke Club (Islington and neighbourhood)
Meets on Thursdays from 12-2pm at St Mary's Neighbourhood Centre, Upper St, Islington, London N1 2TX
Meet people, practice speech and enjoy a light lunch. The club also offers movement to music, games, talks and occasional outings, as well as general support and encouragement.

Stroke Action (Enfield)
Meets at The Visitors Centre, Pymmes Park, Victoria Road, Edmonton.
The club offers support, therapies and social activities to people who have had a stroke and their carers.

St. Austell - One Stop Further Stroke Club
Meets: alternate Fridays 2-4pm at the Cuddran WI Hall, Holmbush.
We enjoy various activities, craft work and the occasional trip out. We also often team up with the Bodmin group.

Sidmouth Stroke Club
Meets: the second Tuesday of each month 2:30-4:30pm at Trumps Court, East Street.
We are a small group who enjoy a social get together and the occasional trip out.

 

Stow on the Wold and District Stroke Club
Meets every other Monday from 2:30-4:30pm at the Market Place, Bourton-on-the-Water.
Club meetings include good discussions as a result of our regular news quiz.

Stroud Stroke Club
Meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 2-4pm at Beeches Green Heath Centre.

Salisbury Stroke Club
Meets on Wednesdays from 1:45-3:45pm at Milford Manor Rest Home, Shady Bower, Laverstock.

Salisbury - The Onward Club
Meets on alternate Thursdays from 10am-12pm in the Communal Lounge of Hedley Davis Court in Cherry Orchard Lane.
We have games and quizzes and do some artwork, and there is always time for a chat. Several outings are arranged each year.

Shaftesbury - Blackmore Stroke Club
Meets on Tuesdays from 10.30am-2pm at the New Remembrance Hall, Charlton.
We have speakers, do exercises, enjoy lunch and even take the opportunity to have a manicure. At the moment the club has 25 members, who are supported by 10 helpers.

Swanage Stroke Club
Meets on the third Saturday of each month at the Swanage Day Centre.
We have 40 members and in between meetings we go on a number of trips around the area. The Beach Hut (No.22) on Swanage Sea Front becomes a daily meeting place for members during the summer months.

Swindon Stroke Support Group
Meets on Thursdays from 7-9pm at Lower Stratton Methodist Church Hall, Ermin Street, Stratton St Margaret.
The social evenings involve a chat with varied games and bingo. We have monthly local trips and some all day outings. An annual holiday is organised for everyone irrespective of disability or needs. This is subsidised and those members who cannot attend are taken out for a meal instead. This group won The Stroke Association's 'Life After Stroke Awards' club award for 2006.

Spade Hammer and Pen Stroke Club (Erdington)
Meets on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Spade Hammer and Pen Day Care Centre, Slade Road.
Activities include discussions, dominoes, cards and singing, with bingo at 1:45pm. From 9:30am-2:30pm there is a breakfast of tea and toast, and a lunch and pudding.

Stafford and District Stroke Club
Meets on Tuesdays from 9am to 3pm at The Thirlmere Centre, Thirlmere Way.
Activities on offer include games, outings and speakers.

Stone and District Stroke Club
Meets Wednesdays from 10:30am-2:30pm at Lotus Court, Oulton Road.

Stourbridge Stroke Club
Meets on the second and fourth Friday of the month from 12-2:30pm at New Road Methodist Church Hall.

Stroke Support West Midlands (Wolverhampton)
Meets on Saturdays from 11am-1pm at West Park Day Hospital.

Strokes R Us (Newcastle-under-Lyme)
Meets on the first Wednesday of each month at The Borough Arms Hotel in Kings Street.
This is a self-help support group for the under 65's. Activities include outings, holidays and swimming.

Sutton Coldfield Stroke Club
Meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 10:30am-3:15pm at the United Reformed Church, Brassington Avenue.
Activities include games, outings, crafts, cooking and speakers.

 

Sheffield Stroke Club North
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital.
The group enjoys the theatre, musical evenings and bingo. Outings are also often organised, including a huge Christmas Party. The group caters for the needs of both stroke survivors and their carers.

Stroke Club Juniors (Hull)
One of the first stroke clubs primarily for younger stroke survivors. They meet at The Avenues pub on the first Wednesday of each month from 1-3pm. The group focuses on stroke issues in their area and are proactive with the stroke planning board and the community stroke team. They also enjoy outings and speakers to their group on a regular basis.

S.E.N. Stroke Support Group

Meets on the third Monday of each month from 1-3pm, at Bedlington Residents Association, 16 Station Street, Bedlington Station.

Speakeasy Gateshead
Meets every Wednesday afternoon from 1:30-3:30pm, at Marigold Court, Old Fold, Gateshead. A referral from a Speech and Language Therapist is required to attend this club.

 

Stroke North Wallsend
Meets on the second Thursday of the month from 1-3pm, at North Tyneside Carers Centre, Neptune Road, Wallsend.

South Tyneside Speech After Stroke Club

  • Tuesday - 10:30am-3pm, at Saville Lodge, Saville Street, South Shields
  • Thursday - 10:30am-2pm, at St Mary's Sheltered Accommodation, Eldon Street, South Shields
  • Thursday - 1-3:30pm, at Chuter Ede Community Association, Galsworthy Road, South Shields.

New members must be referred by a Speech and Language Therapist.

 

DISABILITY SPORTS IN WALES

Disability sports wales

The Disability Sport Wales National Community Development Programme is a joint initiative between the Sports Council for Wales, the Federation of Disability Sport Wales and the 22 local authorities across Wales. The scheme is aimed at developing quality community based sporting and recreational opportunities for disabled people throughout Wales.

 

Saethwyr Dyffryn Nantlle

This is an inclusive mainstream Archery club with membership for people with disabilities.

Mae Saethyddwyr Caerfyrddin a’r Fro’n glwb pan-anabledd drws agored ar gyfer saethyddiaeth, wedi’i leoli ym Meidrim.

This club offers adults and children the opportunity to experience sailing and powerboating in an integrated environment.

Every day there is a different type of session be it judo, yoga or martial arts (except on Sundays).

A horse-riding club which offers sessions for children with a disability.

Sporting marvels
the Sporting Marvels initiative uses sport as a means of engagement to strategically place Christian role models into Rhondda's schools. The Sporting Marvels workers build relationships with the young people through sport, and go on to encourage the young people of Rhondda to make right choices. It's about positively influencing them away from the poverty mind-set of the area, and in to the love of God who wants them to flourish.

    Speakability is the national charity offering information and support to people with Aphasia, however caused. It was founded as 'Action for Dysphasic Adults' in 1979 by Diana Law who had personal experience of Aphasia. The charity runs a Helpline and Information Service, campaigns for greater understanding of Aphasia and better services and empowers people with Aphasia through its national network of Self-Help Groups
