2nd CHANCE  offers practical advice and support on stroke issues offering support as well as info on Suitable sporting recreational and creative craft ideas, giving you contact details & useful tips on how to get involved. Helps you create your own tailor made rehab programme.
 

Stroke clubs.

Stroke Clubs are local groups for those affected by stroke, including stroke survivors and carers. They aim to provide a regular meeting place for people to come together and share their experiences as well as opportunities to take part in a programme of activities.
 
However we cannot offer any guarantees over wether or not a particular group is suitable for younger stroke survivors. Please contact your local organiser. Alternatively you may wish to start up your own group. 2nd chance can help you do this and has a affiliation programme for groups suitable for younger stroke survivors.

Colwyn Bay Stroke Club
Colwyn Bay Stroke Club meet once a month on Tuesdays from 2-4pm at the Fron Community Centre, Elian Road, Colwyn Bay. Membership is free and includes speakers, Extend exercise, entertainment and refreshments. If you have had a stroke then come along and join us in activities that help rehabilitation and increase your confidence. Carers are also welcome. Transport to the club can be arranged on your behalf. Email

CRISP Club (Cardiff)
The CRISP Club provides a musical evening once a month at Whitchurch Community Centre, Old Church Road, Whitchurch. There is also CRISP 2, who meet at Whitchurch Community Centre on a Thursday afternoon once a month for an art class. For more information, contact the Stroke Helpline on 0845 3033 100.

Castle Point Stroke Club
The club meets every Wednesday from 2-4:15pm at Runnymead Hall, Kiln Road, Thundersley, Essex.

The Chelmsford and District Stroke Club for Mid Essex
The group has an evening meeting on alternate Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30pm and a drop-in morning each Saturday from 10am-2:30pm when a hot meal is available. Both meetings are held at the Kathy Mapes Centre, Cottage Place, Chelmsford.

Colchester and District Stroke Club
The club meets every Tuesday from 2-4pm at Shrub End Social Centre, Shrub End Road, Colchester, Essex.

Cambridge Club
This newly formed support group meets every Wednesday from 2-4pm at the Cambridge Cancer Help Centre, Scotsdales Garden Centre, 120 Cambridge Road, Great Shelford. Members can meet for lunch in the garden centre prior to the meeting if they wish.

Cambridge and District Stroke Club
This club meets once a month on a Tuesday in the Chapelfield Way Centre, Off Link Road, Sawston, Cambridgeshire.
Various activities, speakers and outings are organised and therefore times and dates may vary depending on the activity.

Castle Donington and District Stroke Club
Meets every Monday from 10am-2pm at St Edward's Hall, St Anne's Gate, Castle Donington.
The club provides social activities, information, talks and outings. Refreshments and transport are available.

Charnwood Stroke Club (Loughborough)
The Charnwood Stroke Club meets each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Members attend on only one of these two days.
Meetings are held from 9:30am-2pm at St. Peters Community Centre logbook and include speakers, outings and games.

Coalville Stroke Club
Meets on alternate Tuesdays from 10am-12pm at The Marlene Reid Centre, 88 Belvoir Road, Coalville.
Members enjoy games, seated exercise, speakers and outings. Some transport is also provided.

 

Chingdale Stroke Club (Chingford, London E4 area)
Meets on alternative Monday evenings, from 7pm-9pm in North Chingford.
You can enjoy refreshments and a chat, plus bingo, quizzes, pub outings and social entertainment at this small, friendly club.

 

Croydon. The Stroke Association Croydon Young Stroke Group
(London Borough of Croydon) 
This new Stroke Association Stroke Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at The Angel Cafe in West Croydon.

Camborne and Redruth Stroke Club
Meets: the second Thursday of each month 7-10pm at Penworthy Hall, Illogen, Redruth for a social evening. 

Chard and Crewkerne After Stroke Group
Meets at Chard Rugby Club every Tuesday from 10:30am-2:30pm providing a light lunch for members and helpers. This group concentrates on improving the communication skills of its members.  

Cirencester Stroke Club
Meets on Mondays from 9:30am-12pm at the Community Room at Beech Grove Court.
This friendly and social group enjoys remedial exercises, craftwork and games. Several trips are also organised and, where possible, the main carer is also invited.

 

Chippenham Stroke Club
Meets on the second and last Wednesday of each month from 2-4pm at Pewsham Community Hall.
The club has a varied programme and people who have had a stroke and their carers are welcome.

Venue: Upton-by-Chester Village Hall, 28 Heath Road, Upton-by-Chester, Chester CH2 1JA
Meeting time: first Wednesday (monthly) 1:30-3:30pm
Activities: Social group with organised outings, socials and games.

Meeting time: second and fourth Tuesdays (fortnightly) 7:30-9:30pm
Activities: Social evenings which include games and outings.

Carlisle Stroke Club

Meeting time: First and third Tuesdays (fortnightly) 7-10pm
Activities: Social activities, including informative speakers. Speech therapy available.

Churches Together in Workington

Meeting time: Every other Friday (fortnightly) 10am-12pm

Meets fortnightly on Mondays from 7:30-9:30pm at the Wilfred Spencer Centre, Whitaker Road.


 

Hereford Stroke Club
Meets every third Thursday of the month from 7-9pm at Drybridge House Day Centre.
The club offers a wide range of activities and theatre trips.

 

Consett Stroke Club

Meets every Thursday from 9:30am-2pm, at Derwentside District Council House, 11 Allison Gardens, Consett, County Durham.

 

DISABILITY SPORTS IN WALES

Disability sports wales

The Disability Sport Wales National Community Development Programme is a joint initiative between the Sports Council for Wales, the Federation of Disability Sport Wales and the 22 local authorities across Wales. The scheme is aimed at developing quality community based sporting and recreational opportunities for disabled people throughout Wales.

Training Times: Monday 6-9pm Thursday 7-9pm (Elite Level) Friday 10am - 12.

Sessions across Caerphilly in association with Caerphilly Swim Development

Tuesday 7.00pm – 9.00pm

Sunday: 12.15pm – 1.00pm and 1.00pm – 1.45pm.

Session for Pan Disability mainly adults.

Canoeing sessions are now being offered under the Venture Out Project for anyone with a disability.

  • Cinema Exhibitors' Association
    The Cinema Exhibitors' Association provides a national card that can be used to verify that the holder is entitled to one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. To apply for the card, you will need to be in receipt of the disability living allowance or attendance allowance or be a registered blind person. The card is valid for 3 years from the date of issue - processing fee of £5.50 is chargeable per card. Application forms are available from cinemas across the UK supporting this card.
